In 2013, 49 million people visited Chicago, IL. What is there to see in Chicago? A quick search results in “tourist” attractions such as Cloud Gate (aka The Bean), Sears Tower, Museum Campus, and Navy Pier. You’ve been there, done that. Is that all Chicago has to offer?
You want to go to the “spots” or hidden “gems” known only to locals. Not where 49 million tourists have gone. You are not a typical tourist, you are an explorer.
Did you know that according to the city of Chicago, there are 77 neighborhoods with distinct cultures and characteristics. 77, that’s more than all of the states combined.
A quick online search reveals some neighborhood tours but they are time consuming, at a fixed time and cover multiple neighborhoods you aren’t even interested in. There are too many places to explore and not enough time. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a tour that satisfies your needs.
Walkabout is a team of local tour guides (aka local gurus or LOGUs) from all around the city. We began by thinking about our neighborhoods and all they had to offer. Chicago is more than just Navy Pier or Cloud Gate. Each community is like stepping into a different place, with unique people, food, and landmarks. So we thought “Who could give a better tour than me?” I know where the best deep dish pizza is, the best places to catch a dazzling sunset skyline, and how to find the fastest way around my city. We want people to come to Chicago and feel like they’ve never been here before. Whether it’s flautas in Pilsen or a Polish bakery on the Northwest Side, we want people to have access to the real culture of Chicago.
